Family Optometric Associates is locally owned and operated serving the Little Creek Amphibious Base, VA Beach area since 2023. We are located within the Pearle Vision next to the Navy Exchange.
When you visit us for an eye exam, our optometrists, Dr. Steven Chado and Dr. Karlotta Thurman will evaluate your visual health. This includes general eye examinations for correction of farsightedness, nearsightedness, presbyopia, and astigmatism. The doctors also diagnose, manage and treat diseases and disorders of the visual system. Thorough examinations of the external and internal structure of the eyes are performed to evaluate for many ocular conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, retinal disorders, and systemic disorders including hypertension and diabetes.
Dr. Steven Chado, O.D.
Dr. Steven Chado graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 1983, and has been practicing optometry in Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania for the past 33 years. After working in a private practice, he founded Family Optometric Associates, P.C. in 1992. Since then, Dr. Chado has established Family Optometric Associates practices in Stafford, Virginia; Frederick, Maryland; in Naval Exchanges in Oahu, Hawaii; San Diego, California; Norfolk, Virginia; and Walter Reed National Naval Medical Center; and in Army Air Force Exchanges at Buckley AFB, Colroado; Fort Jackson, South Carolina; and Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Dr. Chado resides with his wife, Dr. Beverly Chado, in Frederick, Maryland.
Dr. Karlotta Thurman, O.D.
Dr. Karlotta Thurman is a native Louisianan who transplanted to Virginia Beach by way of being a military spouse. She received her B.S. in Biology with a minor in Chemistry from Prairie View A&M University in 2013. Karlotta went on to earn her Doctorate of Optometry from The University of Houston in 2017. Karlotta and her husband have been married for nine years and have two children, Tatum (5) and Kameron (3). She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. As hobbies, Karlotta enjoys hot yoga and running, watching television, and cooking for her family.
